Quest 3
The Quest 3 is the headset most sim racers actually start PCVR on, and the reason is its optics: 2-element pancake lenses deliver clean, almost edge-to-edge clarity that makes distant braking markers and apexes readable in a way the PSVR2's Fresnel sweet-spot can't match. It's standalone at heart, but for iRacing, Assetto Corsa or AMS2 you'll tether it to a gaming PC over the Link cable - or run wireless via Air Link or Virtual Desktop if your network holds up. The trade-off versus an OLED rig is black depth: LCD panels mean night races look greyer than they do on PSVR2. No eye tracking also means no dynamic foveated rendering, so the GPU carries the full frame. For sharp, sustained-fidelity daytime racing on a flexible budget, it's the obvious first call.
